1910 BLACKPOOL TO SOUTHPORT FLIGHT. 1910 (26 Aug.) special
Empire illustrated advertising card addressed to Penrith.
The card was supposed to have been carried from Blackpool to
Southport as and experiment, it is overprinted in red “FIRST
‘AERIAL’ MAIL/although boisterous weather/conditions
prevented the experiment being carried out in its
entirety/this card was carried by Aeroplane/for over seven
miles in a very/high wind” This event took place at
Blackpool Carnival and was the first attempt at carrying
mail by air, it failed due to high winds. Also a
photographic postcard of Mt Graham White flying with
